Rick Pitino issues direct message to Bad Bunny

After Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime performance, St. John’s Red Storm head coach Rick Pitino issued an open invitation to the Puerto Rican artist to catch any of their games.
This adopted the wrap-up of the 2025 NFL season, the place the Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl LX, claiming their second championship. Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, commanded the stage at Levi’s Stadium along with his fully Spanish-language halftime present after the opening two quarters.
His performance, however, drew sharp rebuke from U.S. President Donald Trump, though Tom Brady did not share the President’s view. Trump vented his frustration on Truth Social, branding it the worst Super Bowl halftime present ever.
“The Super Bowl Halftime Show is absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER!” Trump posted.

“It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence. Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World.”
Despite the criticism, Pitino, who previously guided the Puerto Rican national team, was genuinely impressed by Bad Bunny’s exhibiting. Rick Pitino turned to X to share his enthusiasm, posting: “As someone who spent time in Puerto Rico as their National Coach, watching Bad Bunny at halftime was awesome. @sanbenito you have a seat on the Johnnies bench anytime. Viva Puerto Rico!”
The 73-year-old coach is presently at the helm of St. John’s, a place he is held since taking over the Red Storm in 2023.

Just 24 hours prior to the Super Bowl, Pitino’s squad pulled off a surprising upset at Madison Square Garden, along with his Red Storm team toppling the beforehand undefeated UConn Huskies.
Heading into the contest, the Johnnies sat at No. 22 in the national rankings, while the Huskies occupied the No. 3 spot. Despite a deadlocked 39-39 score at the break, St. John’s dominated the second half against a full-strength UConn lineup, cruising to an 81-72 triumph.
On Monday night, the Red Storm returned to the courtroom, this time edging Xavier 87-82 in extra time at the Garden. Forward Zuby Ejiofor paced Pitino’s team with 25 factors in the victory over the Musketeers.
By defeating Xavier, Pitino notched a win against his personal son, Richard Pitino, who’s in his first season as Xavier’s head coach.
“I hope we don’t play them in the Big East Tournament,” the St. John’s head coach remarked following the contest.
“I think my son’s brilliant. I’m proud of him. I hate getting any milestone against him – but I go away tonight saying my son’s a hell of a coach. … To say my son’s a great coach is much more pleasing to me than any number of victories.”
