According to Smooth Radio, Nick Rhodes and John Taylor turned the resident performers at Birmingham’s Rum Runner nightclub during the late Seventies.
A press release reveals, “There were many other nearby nightclubs, with the most significant one being Barbarella’s.
“They determined to name the band after a personality from the sci-fi movie Barbarella. Milo O’Shea performed the character named Mr Durand Durand.”
