Anthony Head’s devastating year before death after

Actor Anthony Head, best recognized for his roles in Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Ted Lasso, has died at the age of 72, his daughters said in an announcement to the Press Association.

An announcement from his daughters, actresses Emily and Daisy Head, to the Press Association, said: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our extraordinary father, Anthony Head.

“He passed away peacefully of complications due to pneumonia, surrounded by his family. It has been, and forever will be, an honor and a privilege to be his daughter and to have witnessed firsthand the impact both he and his work have had on so many.” This comes as Sarah Michelle Gellar opened up about the death of co-star Michelle Trachtenberg.

They continued: “We know how dearly he will be missed by friends, colleagues, and fans of the shows he was in – he loved his job very much, and he always considered himself incredibly lucky to have been able to work alongside such exceptionally talented people, in such wonderful productions, across a career that spanned several decades.

“Our grief is far greater than the hole he has left behind, but we know his legacy will live on, in the shows he was a part of, and in the audiences that love them. How lucky we are to know we can watch him do what he loved, even when he is no longer with us.

“We kindly ask that our privacy is respected at this difficult time.”

His death sadly comes just six months after the death of his wife Sarah Fisher at the age of 62 in December 2025. The Ted Lasso star and his daughters issued a heartbreaking tribute at the time, describing the loss as “immensely stunning with no warning”.

Throughout her life, Sarah dedicated herself to animal rights activism and resided near Bath with the 71-year-old actor until her passing.

The announcement came through a poignant statement from their daughters, Emily and Daisy, who expressed their profound grief over the sudden and unforeseen tragedy. In their tribute, the sisters stated: “It is immensely stunning to us all, and got here with little or no warning.

“No words could ever express all that she encompassed, or begin to describe the crater her absence has left.” They added: “We know how profoundly she has impacted the lives of so many, and we couldn’t be more proud of the legacy she is leaving behind. We only wish she’d had more time to share her knowledge and brilliance with us, and the world.

“Our grief is aware of no bounds, nor did the reaches of her extremely distinctive and irreplaceable spirit.” Additional details surrounding Sarah’s death have not been revealed.

Sarah earned recognition for her unwavering commitment to animal welfare and maintained deep connections with Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, collaborating extensively with her celebrated partner.

Following news of her death, the charity published its own tribute, celebrating her devotion and significant contributions to animal welfare. In a statement, Battersea expressed: “We’re actually sorry to lose our beloved buddy and Ambassador Sarah Fisher and ship our deepest sympathies to Sarah’s accomplice Anthony, her daughters, and her household and associates.”

Anthony, meanwhile, built an extensive and diverse career, widely recognized for his role as Rupert Giles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the Prime Minister in Little Britain, and Uther Pendragon in Merlin.

His latest work includes playing Rupert Mannion, the previous owner of AFC Richmond, in Ted Lasso.
