This re-entrance into the Garden State comes after more than 40 years of restricted use and a radical $130 million restoration to protect the venue’s historic structure, shimmering chandeliers, gold leaf and custom-built “Wonder Morton” pipe organ.
Once open, the classically-designed theatre will host family title bands, singers and comedians. At the time of publication, they’ve booked 16 large reveals.

The area, which was constructed by architect George Rapp in a gilded Baroque-Rococo fashion, was considered one of 5 Wonder Theatres “constructed between 1929-30 across the tri-state area, along with the Loew’s Paradise in the Bronx, the Loew’s Kings in Brooklyn, the Loew’s Valencia in Queens, and the Loew’s 175th Street, now known as the United Palace Theatre,” 6sqft famous.
Mayor James Solomon called the venue “a symbol of Jersey City’s past and future” before including “for decades, Journal Square has been the heart of our city, home to working families, immigrants, and dreamers, and this restoration is a testament to their resilience and to the neighborhood they never gave up on.”
