A devastating plane crash has claimed the lives of five members of a beloved band, prompting the airline to floor its total fleet in the wake of the catastrophe.
Da Pond Band singer Shaniese Miller said she is “still shocked” following the deaths of five of her bandmates in a tragic plane crash. On July 10, a small plane operated by Flamingo Air went down in the Bahamas, killing all 10 people on board.
The plane departed Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau on what is often a journey of under 20 minutes, certain for San Andros, before crashing in North Andros, according to the Bahamian Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority. It comes months after common Colombian singer Yeison Jimenez also died in a plane crash close to Medellin.
Da Pond Band — famend for his or her Caribbean music performances — had been scheduled to headline an Independence Day celebration on Andros Island, alongside a DJ.
In an interview with CBS, Miller said, “I’m still shocked that they’re gone. I can’t believe it. They’re my family and I never expected that to happen.”

She added, “We were having so much fun, and after the second set, we were, they were just saying how they were so excited to go to Andros.”
Miller had last carried out alongside her bandmates the week prior at a present in Nassau. The band confirmed that the members who died had been Giovanni McKenzie, Mateo Winder, Rashad Storr, Tonique Gilot and Travis Johnson. Melvin Henfield, also often called DJ Fresh, was also among those on board.
Fellow band vocalist Shenia Roberts had traveled to the island earlier that same day aboard the equivalent plane, piloted by the same particular person. She said, “You could tell it was an old plane. But we didn’t have any issues.”

Discussing her fellow band members, Shenia also told CBS News, “They were the people that I talked to in the morning, in the night. They were my friends, my confidants. And I was waiting on them.”
The vocalist moreover told local outlet Our News, “It’s been crazy. They were my people. They were the people that I saw every day of every week. I communicated with them every day. My whole life was my band and my music.”

Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Davis honored the victims in an announcement shared on X, expressing he was “praying for the families who are now facing unbearable grief.”
He said, “This is a painful moment. The families affected deserve compassion, privacy, and support as the investigation proceeds.”
The Bahamas Musicians and Entertainers Union also commented, “Among the dearly departed are some of the talented and vibrant members of our entertainment community, including members of The Pond Band and a DJ.
“(Their) ardour, dedication, and artistry touched so many lives and helped to complement the cultural cloth of The Bahamas.”
Three additional passengers who were not entertainers were also aboard the flight. Their identities have not yet been made public by authorities.
CBS has confirmed that Bahamian investigators are analyzing what prompted the crash. Flamingo Air grounded its total fleet following two emergency conditions that occurred on the same day, with Bahamian authorities confirming the airline skilled a separate plane hearth after touching down in Nassau on the same day as the lethal crash.
