Sydney Sweeney reacts to ‘Christy’ box office disaster…
Sydney Sweeney proved she will be able to take successful — from the box office.
The star of “Christy,” the new biopic about boxer Christy Martin, defended her struggling movie after a notably low first weekend theatrical gross of $1.3 million across more than 2,000 screens.
“I am so deeply proud of this movie,” the 28-year-old “Euphoria” star wrote in an Instagram publish. “Proud of the film [director] david [Michôd] made. proud of the story we told.”
Sweeney added: “So yes I’m proud. why? because we don’t always make art for numbers, we make it for impact. and christy has been the most impactful project of my life.”

The drama tells the harrowing life story of Christy Salters, whose married title was Martin — a trailblazing fighter nicknamed “The Coal Miner’s Daughter.”
The Post awarded “Christy” three stars after its Toronto International Film Festival world premiere in September and called Sweeney’s performance “a knockout.”
And ticket-buyers who made the trek last weekend also authorized. It presently holds a 98% viewers score on RottenTomatoes.
But there weren’t sufficient of them to put it aside. “Christy”’s box office flameout makes the film the latest flop in a rocky yr on the big display for Sweeney.
Her crime comedy “Americana” grossed less than $500,000 off a $9 million finances. And Ron Howard’s $35-million “Eden” did just $2.5 million in enterprise.

Those lows come after two years of major highs — 2023 and 2024, when her “Anyone But You,” which co-starred Glen Powell, grossed $220 million, and spiritual horror flick “Immaculate” grossed $35 million.
A dispiriting development of late, however, is that adult-skewing movies with dear A-List stars have flatlined in theaters.
“The Smashing Machine” starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, “The Kiss of the Spider Woman” starring Jennifer Lopez and “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere” with Jeremy Allen White have all struggled to achieve a foothold with paying audiences.
