WBC Boxing President Mauricio Sulaiman gave Jake Paul his flowers after the star took on Anthony Joshua.
On Dec. 19, Paul misplaced to Joshua after he was knocked out by the British star in the sixth round of their fight in Miami. As a result, the YouTuber-turned-boxer was hospitalized after struggling a damaged jaw, requiring surgical procedure to have two titanium plates fitted with tooth being eliminated.
Now, Sulaiman is giving the 29-year-old his props for getting into the ring against a fighter who was virtually 30 lbs heavier and 5 inches taller than him. Sulaiman’s comments to Nordic Bet come after Joshua was concerned in a horrifying crash, which claimed the lives of two of his associates, main Paul to ship a message of help to the star.
“First of all, our hearts are with Anthony Joshua,” his comments to the outlet started. “What a tragic event — it cannot be put into words. It’s so, so tragic.
“I beloved the fact that Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul fought. It introduced many issues into perspective. Number one: You should respect Jake Paul. We have been supporters of Jake Paul for many years.
“He has had ups and downs in boxing, because when he fights influencers or athletes from other sports, it doesn’t always show continuity towards building a career as a world champion. But I have always expressed my admiration and respect for him.”
Sulaiman also famous that, despite how Paul may need approached boxing, the 29-year-old star had always executed proper by the sport and had helped elevate the profile of other fighters. “He respects the sport, he trains seriously, and he has a promotional company that gives many fighters opportunities to earn a living,” he continued.
The 56-year-old also concluded that Paul confirmed his mettle going up against a fighter of Joshua’s caliber, with Sulaiman calling Paul “brave” while also affectionately calling the British boxing star a “monster.” “My respect to Jake Paul. My respect to Anthony Joshua. What a right hand — it broke his jaw and his teeth. You have to respect it,” he concluded.
“The major thing there is that he has retired from boxing,” Adedamola Joshua explained to the outlet relating to his nephew’s future in the sport. “That is one thing that makes us glad because each time he’s fighting in the ring, we are always carried away emotionally.
“Each time he is knocked down, it’s just like the coronary heart is coming out of our chest. All these emotional feelings every time he is preventing, it is an excessive amount of trauma for us, also. Now that he has said that he is leaving while the ovation is highest, we’re pleased.”
