Yungblud grew up beliving Rod Stewart was his real

Yungblud, who beforehand peformed in the Ozzy Osbourne tribute at the 2025 VMAs, recollects a lie his grandmother told him as a child that he genuinely believed throughout his childhood.

While being interviewed on The Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill, the 28-year-old rock star introduced up how his maternal grandmother, who raised his mother as a single mom, led him to imagine that legendary singer-songwriter Rod Stewart, 80, was his grandfather. However, his actuality of the longtime celeb being his granddad was shattered when he was about 9 years previous and picked up a Stewart album while procuring at the retailer with his grandma.

“It was like proper quivering lip, like, ‘Nan, when’s granddad coming home?’ And everyone at the checkout started laughing at us, knowing that they caught my grandmother in a blatant lie. And that was the day I found out Rod Stewart was not in fact my grandfather,” Ozzy’s mentee Yungblud remembered.

The Zombie singer teased that he didn’t do a DNA test to confirm Rod wasn’t the granddad to be sure, but he did admit that the latter once messaged him on Instagram, jokingly writing, “All right, me wee grandson.”

Yungblud added, “I was like, ‘Rod Stewart, man, he’s got the banter!’” with amusing.

He continued, “But as it is written with legends, they seem to know the things that we don’t. I will never forget you – you will be in every single note I sing and with me every single time I walk on stage.
