After weeks of fitness work, he said, “I got in shape. I got a haircut, which I hadn’t in a while. I was like, ‘Alright, I gotta clean this thing up.’ And then I showed up to work.”

He added that doing dry January ahead of filming helped him ‘actually tighten up,’ and joked about stepping into what he called ‘Speedo mode.’

Kutcher’s position in The Beauty marks a different sort of character for the actor, who most just lately starred in the rom-com Your Place or Mine and the Netflix sequence That ’90s Show.

Calling Murphy, 60, a ‘grasp of his craft,’ Kutcher added, “Ryan is one of the greatest writers on this planet, and the notion that someone’s gonna create something for you to bring to life is humbling.”

“It’s really the most fun I think I’ve ever had playing a character,” he said.

FX’s The Beauty premieres with three episodes on Wednesday, January 21 and will likely be obtainable to stream on Hulu and Disney+.
