Phil Collins admits alcohol abuse ‘tousled’ his

Phil Collins’ prolonged battle with alcohol has lastly “caught up with him.”

The Grammy Award-winning artist, 74, has remained a towering presence in Hollywood for more than 4 many years, crafting chart-topping hits and incomes his place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Recently, however, he is stepped again from the highlight resulting from ongoing health struggles.

In a new, five-part BBC podcast collection called Phil Collins Eras: In Conversation collection, he revealed, “It’s an ongoing thing. You know I have a 24-hour live-in nurse to make sure I take my medication as I should do… I had everything that could go wrong with me, did go wrong with me.”

Phil detailed struggles with his knees and a previous hospitalization from COVID, however the most startling disclosure centered on his experience with alcohol abuse.

The musician recalled the extreme ingesting began during his profession’s peak, while he was performing solo exhibits and fronting Genesis.

“I’d probably been drinking too much, and so my kidneys were messed up, you know,” he said. “I enjoyed coming off tour, coming off the road, but I thought, right, I’m gonna do all those things that I couldn’t do.”

The performer then explained, “I wasn’t one of those guys that sort of stayed up all night drinking.

“I’d drink during the day, however I assume I had an excessive amount of of it,” Phil continued. “I used to be never drunk, although I fell over a few instances. But, it’s just one in all those issues that occurred and all of it caught up with me and I spent months in hospital.”

Phil entered the entertainment world at just 12 years old, appearing in acclaimed films such as A Hard Day’s Night and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. He also starred in the West End production of Oliver! in 1964.

A mere six years after his acting debut, he pivoted from acting to music, becoming the drummer for rock group Genesis in 1970. Following Peter Gabriel’s departure five years later, Phil took over as the band’s frontman.

After spending 11 years with the group, he launched a solo career with his first album Face Value.

He hasn’t put out a new studio album since 2010, when he launched the covers document Going Back. Despite dealing with health challenges and taking a 16-year hiatus, Phil hinted he still has a few musical tasks up his sleeve.

The artist shared, “The issues that are ahead for me could be, aside from just being again to being completely cellular and healthy, is go in there and have a fiddle about and see if there’s more music ‘trigger you understand, you are likely to form of really feel, that’s it, I’ve accomplished that.

“I’ve got some things that are half formed or were never finished, and a couple of things that were finished, which I like, so you know,” he concluded. “Maybe life in the old dog. Yeah. You’ll see.”
