Marilyn Monroe stays frozen in our minds as the blonde and delightful Hollywood icon who captivated the world and earned the devotion of a president.

Now, followers have been given a glimpse into her real life, with never-before-seen images and her handwritten secret recipe for Thanksgiving turkey stuffing being shared with the world. These treasured private belongings are among the objects set to be auctioned at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills, California, commemorating what would have been the Some Like it Hot star’s a centesimal birthday on June 1.

Martin Nolan, co-founder of the public sale home, said, “There was a world before Marilyn Monroe and a profoundly different one after. She remains a once-in-a-generation star whose influence reshaped culture and continues to resonate today.” The public sale comes after Marilyn’s final telephone calls have been revealed.

The 100 Years of Marilyn sale, comprising between 350 and 400 heaps, will feature an intensive array of her possessions, including paperwork, wardrobe items and even the wood gates from her California house. The sale on June 4 will also feature ballgowns, personal film contracts, cosmetics and scripts.

Martin told The Mirror “As we approach what would have been Marilyn’s 100th birthday, Julien’s Auctions joins audiences around the globe in honoring her extraordinary life and enduring legacy, as one of the 20th Century’s defining cultural icons.

“We are proud to provide an distinctive assortment of her most private belongings; objects that seize the glamour, expertise, vulnerability, and sensuality that cement her standing as an eternal legend of Hollywood.”

The auction comes at a moment when market values have reached unprecedented heights. Interest in “Monroe-bilia” surged after Kim Kardashian wore the star’s legendary 1962 Happy Birthday Mr President dress at the 2022 Met Gala in New York.

The delicate flesh-toned gown was loaned to Kim, having been purchased for $4.8 million at Julien’s in 2016 by Ripley’s Believe It or Not.

Among the museum-worthy artifacts going up for auction from Marilyn’s home are her green front gates, acquired for $75,000 and bearing her address, 12305 Fifth Helena Drive in Los Angeles. This was the site where she was found dead on August 5, 1962, from a suspected drug overdose – her death subsequently ruled as a probable suicide.

Other notable items up for sale include an elegant 1950s Jeanne Lanvin ivory silk evening gown adorned with gold-tone sequins, rhinestones and faux pearls.

Also available are her 1949 William Morris Agency contract and her 1956 Screen Actors Guild membership card. Personal items include a 1950s tan cotton brassiere, passed down to Lee and Paula Strasberg. A 1954 signed black-and-white photograph shows Marilyn and her then-new husband, Joe DiMaggio, disembarking from an airplane in Japan in February, 1954, during the couple’s “working” honeymoon.

A 1962 photograph by Allan Grant, making its first-ever public appearance, depicts Marilyn less than a month before her passing. A rare snapshot shows Marilyn on the set of the 1955 comedy, The Seven Year Itch, with her makeup and hair team tending to her.

Rounding out the collection is one of her earliest professional headshots, circa 1944, captured when she was still a teenager known as Norma Jean – prior to her transformation into Marilyn Monroe.

Her personal cosmetics, including her Max Factor lipstick, Lip Pomade 7-22, which she wore during filming of her final and incomplete movie – 1962’s Something’s Got To Give – are also among the items.

A glimpse into her extravagant way of life is provided by a 1952 handwritten counter check from her Bank of America account, issued to settle a bill at the Beverly Hills Carlton Hotel – presented along with a 1960 check for $3,913.70 for accommodations at Bungalow 16 at the Beverly Hills Hotel. This is where Marilyn and Arthur Miller lived throughout the entire filming of her 1960 romantic comedy, Let’s Make Love.

The auction at Julien’s arrives 27 years after hundreds of pieces went under the hammer at Christie’s in New York in 1999 – three years before an Andy Warhol portrait of the icon sold in the Big Apple for a record-breaking $195 million.

It was the most expensive 20th Century artwork ever sold at auction. If you do decide to place a bid next month, remember Marilyn’s famous words, “I do not care about cash. I just need to be great!”
