CNN viewers left stunned as guest chokes on fly during

Economist Justin Wolfers skilled a clumsy second during a live look with CNN’s Omar Jimenez on Saturday, August 8, when a fly flew immediately into his mouth while on air.

Justin was mid-discussion about the disappointing job figures launched on Friday, August 7, when the insect interrupted his analysis. “The good news is the U.S. labor market, roughly speaking, has been The Little Engine That Could. It’s not earning an A+ in anyone’s book, but it does seem remarkably resilient so far. But, all resilient until the day that we’re not,” the CNN contributor was explaining when the fly abruptly entered his mouth, inflicting him to cough.

This comes after RFK Jr was in comparison with a ‘rabid canine barking’ after his chaotic CNN interview.

While Omar continued with the broadcast, Justin struggled to compose himself by way of repeated coughing.

As Justin tried to get well, Omar pressed on: “You know, I just wonder, like, as we look ahead, everyone is looking – maybe not everyone – but, folks like yourself are looking at the Fed and trying to figure out, okay, we have these economic indicators, maybe the job market is a little softer, but how do you think the Fed is going to read this, considering they didn’t hike interest rates at the last meeting?”

Finally, Justin interrupted, “Mate, I just swallowed a fly on live television!” prompting Omar to burst into laughter and reply, “I was trying to keep talking while you were coughing, so you could figure it out. It’s all good!”

Capitalizing on the second, the University of Michigan professor made light of the incident, joking about deliberately consuming a fly, quipping, “Aussies love eating flies!”

He then added, “It might actually be a metaphor, because the biggest thing going on at the Fed is Kevin Warsh feels like I do right now,” before pausing as soon as more to cough, stories the Mirror US.

“Kevin Warsh doesn’t like talking about what’s going on, and it makes both of us a little harder to understand and a little harder to interpret,” Justin continued. “So, you can think of Kevin as having swallowed the fly as well. I might swallow a horse; that will get the fly as well.”

Following the interview, Justin took to X to deal with the awkward on-air second.

He wrote, “A fly just zipped into my mouth while gabbing on CNN. Next question was about the Fed, so I did what Kevin Warsh won’t-I swallowed hard and kept talking. I figure folks deserve some clarity about the economy. (Postscript: The fly is dead. And I’m no longer a vegetarian.)”

The publish drew loads of humorous responses from followers. One consumer wrote, “Watched it live lol! I so wanted to hand you water through the TV! !” as another echoed, “I saw that!! Didn’t know it was a fly. Thought you were just having a little coughing fit. But, you rallied.”

Another quipped, “Oh, terrible for both of you, but really sucks for the fly.”

Even CNN host Omar, who had performed the interview, bought in on the laughs, responding, “Lmao I thought it was gonna take you down!”
