Katie Couric hits out at Donald Trump as he demolishes

Former Today Show host Katie Couric has weighed in on President Donald Trump‘s destruction of the White House’s East Wing.

The 68-year-old journalist and Virginia native took to her Instagram Story on Sunday, Oct. 26 to share a montage of clips of the East Wing taken during Christmastime.

The Virginia native, who has turn out to be an advocate for cancer screenings after her first husband’s loss of life, captioned the video with, “Goodbye East Wing of the White House,” and a tragic face emoji.

The White House revealed it intends to “modernize” the “entirety of the East Wing,” which they consider is a “bold, necessary addition that echoes the storied history of improvements and renovations from commanders-in-chief to keep the executive residence as a beacon of American excellence.”

A ballroom is deliberate to be constructed the place the East Wing as soon as stood.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was compelled to defend the demolition during a press convention last week.

The 28-year-old seemingly admitted that the White House, and by extension Trump, had the energy to tear down no matter they needed.

“So the White House has explained that the reason you didn’t submit construction plans to the NCPC is because that commission, along with others, doesn’t have oversight over demolitions, but only over construction,” a reporter said.

“And so far, you haven’t built anything,” the journalist added. “So, can you help us understand, can the president tear down anything he wants without oversight? Could he demolish this building or, say, the Jefferson Memorial?”

“So, it’s not the president who came up with that legal opinion himself,” Leavitt said. “That’s a legal opinion that’s been held by the NCPC for many years. It’s written, so we can get you that background and that research, if you wish, to include it in your reporting because it is very important.”

Leavitt added that the National Capital Planning Commission had persistently dominated in favor of this opinion.

“Their general counsel said when it comes to phase one of this project, the tearing down of the current East Wing structure, a submission is not required legally for that,” Leavitt claimed.

The press secretary also claimed that plans for development are only required when there may be vertical development. “And that’s a legal opinion from them,” she said.

“We are following that legal opinion,” Leavitt said, seemingly carried out with the query. However, it appeared the reporter was not. “I would just add, can any president do such a thing to the White House grounds?” she requested.

“There have been many presidents in the past who have made their mark on this beautiful White House complex,” Leavitt said. “This briefing room, as you all know, was not once a briefing room.

“It was a swimming pool. There have been presidents who’ve fully torn down the government mansion.”

Couric isn’t the only one who has voiced their displeasure about the new renovations to the White House.

Author Stephen King once again slammed Trump, calling him a “gleeful toddler, not rest room skilled” while bashing the destruction of the East Wing.

On Thursday, Oct. 23, the 78-year-old Shining author took to his X, formerly Twitter account, to write, “Trump’s destruction of the East Wing is a part of a sample. Because he never has to face for election again (at least, under regular Constitutional guidelines), he is sort of a gleeful toddler, not rest room skilled, bes—-ing every little thing he can attain.”

This isn’t the first time Couric has shared her political views in recent days, either. She shared her support for her fellow Americans who participated in No Kings protests on Oct. 18.

Taking to Instagram, Couric mentioned many at the larger gatherings in bigger cities around the country.

“Scenes from today’s No Kings Day protests in New York City, Boston, Michigan, Washington DC, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Minneapolis and Vermont,” she captioned her carousel of photos.
