Liza Minnelli makes bombshell ‘ordered’ claim about

Liza Minnelli has hit out at the Oscars after she was “ordered” to sit down in a wheelchair. The Cabaret icon, 79, took the stage at the 2022 ceremony alongside singer and actress Lady Gaga as they offered the Best Picture award.

During their time on stage, Liza appeared to fumble her phrases before Gaga intervened to help her, saying: “I got you.”

At the time, Liza was seated in a wheelchair, despite her expectation that she can be sitting in a director’s chair, which might have given her a clear view of the autocue and script for the momentous event.

In her upcoming memoir, the Oscar-winning actress has criticized the Academy and alleged that they compelled her to sit down in a wheelchair. This alternative, she asserts, impacted her ability to read the autocue, inflicting her to flub her strains.

Gaga wheeled Liza onto the stage and had hoped to have Minnelli carry out a tune from the 1972 traditional, Cabaret. Writing in Kids, Wait Till You Hear This, Liza acknowledged: “I was inexplicably ordered – not even asked – to sit in a wheelchair or not appear at all.”

She continued: “I was told it was because of my age, and for safety reasons, because I might slip out of the director’s chair, which was b******t.”

In the excerpt, revealed by Variety, Judy Garland’s daughter continued: “I will not be treated this way, I said. I was heartbroken. I was much lower down than I would have been in the director’s chair. Now I couldn’t easily read the teleprompter above me.

“How would you’re feeling in the event you had been wheeled out, against your will, to carry out in entrance of a live viewers, and unable to see clearly? So after I stumbled over a few phrases, Gaga, who was at my aspect, did not miss a beat to play the kindhearted hero for all the world to see. ‘I acquired you,’ she said, leaning down over me.”

Liza alleges that prior to taking the stage, Lady Gaga noticed her distress and immediately rushed to her dressing room to provide support. Previously, singer and pianist Michael Feinstein, who co-authored Liza’s new book alongside the star, alleged that she had been “sabotaged”.

He stated on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show: “She only agreed to look at the Oscars if she can be in a director’s chair, because she’s been having again hassle. She said, ‘I do not need people to see me limping out there.’ She said, ‘You know, I need to look good. I do not need people to fret about me.”

Feinstein, a longtime collaborator of Minnelli, alleges she was notified of the decision to place her in a wheelchair moments before she was scheduled to go on stage to present the award to Coda. The Guardian reports Feinstein as saying Minnelli was “sabotaged.”

In her memoir, Liza reveals the burden of caring for her mother from the tender age of 13. “A nurse, doctor, pharmacologist and psychiatrist rolled into one,” she documented. She continues: “I misplaced rely of the instances I called medical doctors to say she’d run out of drugs. I’d say: ‘I’m a child! Please fill my mama’s prescription!”

Liza was just 23 years old when her mother succumbed to an accidental overdose. The iconic actress was discovered at her London residence by her husband, Mickey Deans.
