Roy Jones Jr. revealed his ideas on returning to the ring to face Floyd Mayweather or Mike Tyson in a rematch.

“No. I don’t want to turn boxing into a joke, I would never want to do that,” Jones explained concerning a possible return to the ring to face Mayweather or Tyson in a rematch. Still, the boxing legend didn’t shut off all avenues, stating one specific motive he would fight again.
He admitted, “If Netflix reached out to me and said they wanted me to fight again and they offered me a lot of money and it made sense for me to come back then I would. But I won’t come back and fight again in boxing. It would take a lot of money for me to get back into shape so I don’t see it happening.”

Over the years, Jones and Mayweather had not seen eye to eye and had exchanged verbal jabs, though little got here of those comments. At one point, Jones even challenged Mayweather to a fight in 2025, despite the former often criticizing the latter for his opponents.
What’s more, the 57-year-old had selection phrases for Mayweather and Pacquiao’s resolution to have a rematch 11 years after their first fight. Speaking with DAZN, Jones believed that he was tempering his expectations for the second bout, claiming that even their first fracas was overdue.
“For those guys to make the money they’re going to make, [it’s] good for them – I like it for that purpose,” he said of the upcoming fight.
“[But], for me, I’m not excited because I wanted to see the fight five years before it happened. So it happened too late for me, the first time. This time, it’s definitely too late. But I’m not going to hate on them. If they’re going to make money doing it, more power to them.”
What’s more, Pacquiao’s advisor, Sean Gibbons, believes that Mayweather combating the Filipino legend was attributable to his out-of-the-ring points. “It’s actually surreal to assume that after all these years and all of the makes an attempt to make the fight, right here we’re, and we have now to offer all credit score to Netflix for stepping up and being an awesome companion to assist put this fight together,” he said via Betway.
