‘Today’ anchor Savannah Guthrie breaks down in tears after hearing new…
Savannah Guthrie is breaking in her new voice.
The “Today” anchor, 54, was overcome with emotion after hearing herself discuss for the first time following vocal twine surgical procedure in December.
On Friday, Guthrie shared a phase on the morning present, the place she documented her journey together with her voice.

“No longer able to just ignore it,” she said in the footage after displaying clips of her on-air voice declining.
After seeing a vocal specialist, it was decided Guthrie had a ruptured blood vessel on one twine and on the other vocal twine, a callous from overuse.
The anchor had what she called “beleaguered vocal cords.”
Guthrie’s surgical procedure took an hour and following the process she was compelled to be silent for eight days.

She replied: “Good morning. Today is Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026. I am using my voice for the first time and it sounds good. I could cry.”
Guthrie was overcome with emotion, wiping away tears before footage minimize to her in voice therapy.
“I’m so grateful to all of you at this place and my bosses at NBC, who have been nothing but supportive. To take three weeks off is a big, big deal,” she said while on “Today” on Friday. “I’m so grateful to be back, and I’m ready to go.”
On Tuesday, Guthrie called into the tv present’s broadcast for the first time since stepping away.

She reunited with fellow co-hosts Craig Melvin, Jenna Bush Hager, Carson Daly, Al Roker and Sheinelle Jones, holding up a dry-erase board that read “Love you.”
Then, Guthrie stunned followers by saying to the digicam: “You know what? I think it’d be easier for me to just talk.”
“I am still on vocal rest, but I’m allowed to talk for five to 10 minutes every hour,” the journalist explained.

“Savannah sounds good,” Jones, 47, chimed in, to which Guthrie joked again, “This is my new voice, or my old voice but my new voice.”
“Sounds the same,” Roker, 71, added. However, Melvin, 46, disagreed, including: “No, you sound markedly better!”
“I think the good news is that it worked,” Guthrie answered. “And Sheinelle knows, she went through this and had this surgery, it’s kind of slow recovery. You’re allowed to talk and if you talk too much — which is a real risk for me — you start to feel it, so you just have to take it easy.”

Daly, 52, requested Guthrie if she’d taken the new cords for a “test drive” to yell at her and husband Michael Feldman’s two children: Vale, 11, and Charley, 9, yet.
“Actually, yes,” Guthrie clapped again. “A long weekend will bring that out, especially when Mike had to travel. It finally got there.”
The tv persona is about to formally return to “Today” on Monday, Jan. 26.

In December, Guthrie announced she can be briefly leaving the discuss present to bear vocal surgical procedure.
“Some of you have noticed that my voice has been very scratchy and started to crack a little bit,” she started while on air. “Well, I have found out what it is. I have vocal nodules, and I also have a polyp. It’s not a big, big deal, but I am going to have to have a surgery in the new year and be off for a couple of weeks, so this is my last day for a little while.”
Guthrie added: “This has been going on for years, honestly, so to have a solution.”

She elaborated that viewers even started to suspect that she was having “the world’s longest head cold.”
However, she’s “really excited” to have gotten to the root of the drawback.
“Totally silent,” she acknowledged about the recovery course of. “Christmas coming early for my family!”
