Oscar-winning actor and filmmaker Tom Hanks took a visit to one in every of the most novel spots in the Bay Area: a typewriter store.
Photos posted on social media by Berkeley Typewriter — which has supplied classic typewriter service repairs for 90 years — confirmed the star chatting with staff and sitting in entrance of a black typewriter.
While he was there, Hanks picked up a Nineteen Thirties Royal machine, the store said.

The “Forrest Gump” and “Cast Away” star spent an hour in the store testing out its wares before making a purchase order, workers said.
According to the store’s web site, Hanks didn’t just purchase a typewriter — he gifted the store a treasured one from his assortment.
Photos reveals a pink typewriter accompanied by a letter from Hanks, each bearing his signature. The present has been placed on show, the store said.

The letter from Hanks read, partly: “On one hand, you take [it] off my cabinets and out in the higher world. On the other hand you’re giving me more house and less litter.
“On the third hand, you just may be giving this miracle of a machine a fuller, newer life of use.”
The actor requested the store to take excellent care of the typewriter and hopes it continues to function for another 100 years.

Hanks is a big fan of typewriters. The actor owns over 300 of them, has been amassing them over 30 years, and was concerned in an effort to strive to save another comparable store, California Typewriter. That enterprise ended up closing in 2020.
“Hanks has spoken about his love for typewriters, saying they have a unique charm and character that can’t be replicated by modern technology. He also enjoys the tactile experience of typing on a typewriter and the sound it makes,” the store said on its web site.
Staff told SFGate they had been delighted to see Hanks cease by and took pictures with him.
“He’s got a really positive attitude, just about everything,” a typewriter technician said.
Known for his “everyman” persona, Hanks is known for roles in iconic films including “Big” and “Saving Private Ryan,” in addition to the voice of Woody in the “Toy Story” franchise.
