Country music star teaming up with Buffy icon for TV

Netflix is bringing again one in every of tv’s most iconic expertise competitions with an A-list lineup of judges.

The streaming service confirmed that Star Search, the basic selection present that aired from 1983–1995, will return January 20 with a new format and a trio of acquainted faces.

Country-rap breakout Jelly Roll, Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar, and model-turned-entrepreneur Chrissy Teigen will be a part of the present’s lineup as judges.

Anthony Anderson is about to hitch as the host of the reboot, which Netflix says will feature “real-time viewer voting” to find out which contestants advance each week.

Jelly Roll, who has just lately blown up for mixing nation and rap, brings experience as a performer.

The five-week event begins January 20, with new episodes airing live on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EST.

“The talent is bigger, the stakes are higher and the format is more interactive than ever,” Netflix said in an announcement.

“Each episode will spotlight the best up-and-coming performers across numerous categories — music, dance, variety, comedy, magic and juniors — as they compete head to head for their shot at stardom.”

The unique Star Search helped launch the careers of a number of future stars, including Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Dave Chappelle, and Adam Sandler. A brief-lived reboot aired from 2003 to 2004.

“The show that launched the greatest stars of our time is back,” Anderson said in a promotional video for the Netflix revival. “The next great star will be discovered.”
