Dave Portnoy tells Caitlin Clark to ‘start her own
Barstool CEO Dave Portnoy called on Caitlin Clark to depart the WNBA and start her own league after the guard was given a technical that led to a suspension.
Portnoy has often come to the Indiana Fever star’s protection on social media following her latest incident. Clark has come under the microscope in latest weeks for her persistent histrionics towards WNBA referees when she would not obtain a desired foul name.
In the Fever’s conflict against the Chicago Sky, Clark ran into an official after dropping stability on a drive. She expressed some frustration, however the official called a tech on her, which triggered an automated one-game suspension and effective from the WNBA.
Portnoy was livid. He took to social media to lash out at Engelbert, writing: “Hey @CaitlinClark22 just go start your own league already. Sick league @CathyEngelbert #wnba #caitlin”
Then Portnoy added: “Imagine treating the most important, impactful, influential woman’s basketball player ever like a piece of shit. Insane disrespect. By the way shes got 25 and 9 assists and is 5/6 from 3. And they HATE her for it #freecaitlin”
The WNBA can rescind the foul, though Clark’s season whole would stay at seven and preserve her one tech away from the penalty. Only one participant in the WNBA entered Saturday with as many fouls: Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese.
When requested about the foul during her postgame interview on ABC, Clark expressed confidence that the foul can be struck from the file.
“She said I ran into her. I’ve already watched it on the tape, so we’ll let the league decide, but it wasn’t intentional or anything,” Clark told reporters. “So I’m hoping it’s getting rescinded … I’ll see you on Tuesday.”
The Fever, who clinched a 90-86 win over the Sky, are next in action against the New York Liberty on Tuesday. Clark completed the game with 26 factors on 7-of-15 taking pictures, including 11 assists, 4 rebounds, two steals, and 6 turnovers.
