Elijah Wood joins Sundance 2026 protest against ICE –

A quick demonstration passed off at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday, January 25, when roughly 100 protesters assembled outdoors 577 Main Street in Park City, Utah, to oppose persevering with ICE raids and honor two Minneapolis residents killed by federal brokers.
Dubbed the Sundancers Melt ICE protest, which is just one among many gatherings against the institution, the 10-minute gathering attracted appreciable consideration as individuals chanted “Love melts ice! Love melts ice!” while carrying indicators and candles. The Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood was among those current.
“The people who’ve been unlawfully gunned down in Minnesota, it is terrible,” Wood, 44, told Deadline on Sunday. “Here we are at this film festival that is about bringing people together; it’s about telling stories from all over the world. We’re not divided here; we’re coming together,” he added.
The rally occurred sooner or later following the dying of Alex Pretti and one week after Renee Good’s killing. Pretti, a 37 yr previous ICU nurse, was shot and killed by Border Patrol brokers, while Good, a 37 yr previous US citizen, was fatally shot by ICE brokers.
Both incidents occurred in Minneapolis and have triggered demonstrations nationwide, the Mirror US.

During the competition, performers utilized their purple carpet moments to precise their views on the current political scenario. Multiple attendees have been noticed sporting “ICE out” and “Be Good” pins at premieres and during interviews.
Speaking to Deadline from the Sundance studio, actress and producer Natalie Portman denounced the federal authorities’s involvement in the fatalities.
“What’s going on in this country right now is absolutely horrific,” Portman declared. “What the federal government, Trump’s government, Kristi Noem, ICE – what they’re doing is really the worst of the worst of humanity. And then we have the best of humanity for the way people are showing up for each other.”

Actress Olivia Wilde also voiced her issues at the competition.
“We’re all here getting to celebrate something really beautiful and hopeful in film storytelling,” she informed Variety. “But the world is hurting right now, and this country is hurting. And it’s appalling.
“I’m appalled and sickened,” Wilde added. “We cannot go another day just type of accepting this as our new norm. It’s outrageous. People are being murdered. And I do not wish to normalize seeing people being murdered on the web. On movie. It’s hideous. And so if we are able to do something out right here to help the motion to solid ICE out, to delegitimize this unbelievably felony group, then that’s what we must be doing.”
Earlier in the week, U.S. Rep. Maxwell Frost of Florida was attacked at a CAA party during the festival. The individual who struck Frost was subsequently taken into custody.
