Expert says Harry and Meghan’s Royal exit caused ‘very
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s exit from the Royal Family caused “very serious damage,” a royal creator says.
On Meghan Markle‘s forty fifth birthday on August 4, Catherine Mayer, creator of Divide & Rule, reexamined her and Prince Harry‘s 2020 resolution to “step back as ‘senior’ members” of the Royal Family, now referred to as Megxit. At the time, they cited intense tabloid strain and restrictions imposed by the monarchy, particularly the prevention of their creating the “SussexRoyal” model.
After the Sandringham Summit, it was agreed that Meghan and Harry may preserve their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles, however had been not allowed to make use of “Royal Highness.” The couple moved to California to boost their two youngsters, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, and shortly constructed their model. However, they reportedly left behind a catastrophe for the Royal Family.
“I believe that the rupture in the family that saw Meghan and Harry go to the United States has done very serious damage to the monarchy,” Mayer told Fox News Digital.
The creator added, “But to say that is not to say that I blame them for what happened. It’s often taken as a criticism: ‘Look what they’ve done to the monarchy.’
“I feel this has been very painful for everyone and for the establishment, however you want only take a look at the latest polling on the reputation of the monarchy to see that it’s shedding floor.”
U.K. polls continue to expose the Royal Family’s declining popularity, mostly due to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who was stripped of his royal titles following his controversial relationship with late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
However, Mayer believes that the Sussexes’ exit has “undoubtedly” played a role in the decline in popularity because they were able to connect with younger people in a way that’s “not likely there with the remainder of the household.”
She said, “The only ones who can probably do it are Kate and William, and they’re more of a small ‘c’ conservative of their strategy,” said Mayer, referring to the Prince and Princess of Wales.
“They’re younger, however they’re of their 40s. Their youngsters are actually younger. And there’s no one in between George and his mother and father, William and Kate, to seize the creativeness of youthful audiences. Harry and Meghan are mainly the same age, however they’d this enchantment, a wider enchantment, and that’s been misplaced now.”
Royal broadcaster Ian Pelham Turner echoed that opinion, noting that family tensions remain unresolved despite signs of reconciliation.
Turner said, “I really feel there are major cracks in the royal household over Meghan and Harry, particularly between King Charles and Prince William, who I consider are at loggerheads over the couple, culminating in the latest personal assembly at Highgrove, leaving William blindsided about the assembly.
“Now, with Harry able to use Buckingham Palace again when he returns, it could be a breakthrough for Meghan and a heart-piercing wound for William.”
When the couple stepped down as senior royals, King Charles gave them “a substantial sum” to assist set up their new life, per the BBC. However, after transferring to California, the Sussexes aired their grievances with the Royal Family in interviews and documentaries.
Now, Meghan is said to have specific “regrets” about how she and Harry stepped again as senior members of the Royal Family, per Grazia. According to a Los Angeles royal commentator, the former actress “does regret certain statements that she made.”
As per reviews, Meghan’s comments “weren’t received in the way that she had expected and several of her comments have backfired.” The source claimed Meghan has regret over the “royal racist controversy,” which the insider said she and Harry “deeply regret.”
During their March 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan and Harry claimed that “concerns and conversations” occurred concerning how darkish Archie’s skin is perhaps before he was born.
“Meghan wanted the takeaway from their Oprah interview to be about her mental health, and I think Meghan regretted sitting down with The Cut [in 2022] because she provided endless commentary for her critics,” they added.
Since the bombshell interviews in the early days of their post-royal life, Meghan has launched a lifestyle model named As Ever and produced major streaming initiatives via their Netflix partnership, including the docuseries Harry & Meghan and the lifestyle sequence With Love, Meghan.
Meanwhile, she has established the non-profit group Archewell alongside Harry to help community, psychological health, and social fairness initiatives.
Now, the Sussexes have had a personal assembly with King Charles and Queen Camilla on July 10, marking the first time since 2022 that Meghan had returned to the U.Okay.
Before the reunion, it was believed that Meghan and the Sussex youngsters wouldn’t accompany Harry for his four-day go to to his nation because the couple had misplaced their taxpayer-funded safety once they stepped down as working royals.
The Duke of Sussex has lengthy sought its reinstatement, citing issues for his household’s security.
