Kate had ‘less curiosity’ than William in keeping Harry

A new e-book detailing the practically 25-year relationship between Prince William and Kate Middleton is providing contemporary insights into the rift between William and Prince Harry, suggesting that Kate was less keen than her husband to maintain Harry within the royal household.

In ‘William and Catherine: The Monarchy’s New Era: The Inside Story,’ set to be launched in the U.S. on March 10, veteran royal reporter Russell Myers claims that the Duchess of Cambridge had “less interest” than William in convincing Harry to stay a working royal after he and his spouse, Meghan Markle, stepped again from their roles in January 2020.

According to a newly launched excerpt, Kate “believed William and Harry’s fundamental differences as the ‘heir and the spare’ had created the inevitability of Harry wanting more from his role than being a bit-part player.”

Myers also notes that “William was intensely saddened at his brother’s decision to quit.

“He and Harry had been drifting aside for years, however now he knew deep down that there can be no turning again,” Myers penned. “Fond recollections of their childhood, from serving to each other by means of the tragedy of their mom’s loss of life to rising up in the public eye, had been now tarnished by the division at the coronary heart of the household.”

Royal historian Robert Lacey beforehand told People, “The rift could be very profound and really long-lasting. It is not going to be modified, in my opinion, until Harry makes a transfer and apologizes.”

The book traces these tensions back several years, to before Harry and Meghan’s departure from royal duties. When Harry began dating Meghan in 2016, she “turned a goal on social media owing to her biracial heritage,” Myers wrote.

“Harry demanded that action be taken,” Myers added. “Royal aides informed him they had been powerless to behave, so he turned his consideration to the royal safety groups funded by the Home Office. When told any such safety wouldn’t be offered until after he and Meghan had been married, Harry was incredulous and appealed to his father [then-Prince Charles] and brother to intervene.

“The (then) Prince of Wales insisted he could not become involved in a government decision, especially one where any costs would be footed by taxpayers, but Harry was well aware that Catherine had not only received unofficial guidance from the palace when merely his brother’s girlfriend, but that she had also qualified for ’round-the-clock protection as soon as they became engaged,” Myers continued. “One rule for him and another for me, Harry thought.”

The e-book reveals that Charles’s stance “was final, though, and William’s subsequent unwillingness to help sparked a row that ignored a long-running and ugly feud.”

Additional friction emerged when Harry launched a public assertion criticizing the on-line treatment Meghan had endured, without first looking for his father’s or brother’s approval. “Harry’s reaction was furious and swift,” Myers penned.

“Without consulting his father or brother, as the hierarchy would normally dictate, he instructed the Kensington Palace communications team to respond at once.”

Harry “was infuriated that his father and brother admonished him for his rash actions, and the tense conversations left Harry astounded that his own kin were refusing to offer their support.”

Subsequently, it turned “harder to get them in the same room,” Myers famous, referring to William and Harry, with “each giving various excuses as to why they could not-or perhaps would not-be available to engage with meetings together.”

However, the e-book highlights that William initially welcomed Meghan. “It’s easy to forget now, given everything that has gone on,” Myers quotes a source as saying.

“But William did find Meghan quite refreshing at first. He was genuinely happy for Harry and only wanted the best for him.”

Yet over time, Myers paperwork, William “felt as though somewhere down the line, perhaps it is impossible to even say when, that he lost his brother.”
