Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has been dealt a major blow with a current no-convidence vote from his division.
The sheriff is being called to resign by an Arizona union, The Pima County Deputy’s Organization (PCDO) that characterize over 300 deputies in the Pima County Sheriff’s Office. The union unanimously solid a no-confidence vote in Nanos this week. PCDO annouced on Monday, March 23, of their vote and urging Nanos to step down in an assertion posted on their Facebook web page.
The union acknowledged that they did the vote after Nanos’ “extensive disciplinary history” with the El Paso Police Department was revealed and he seemingly didn’t reveal that data to the Pima Department and to the public for over 40 years. It comes after a thriller man who claimed he “saw Nancy 5 days ago” provided chilling new proof.
According to the union (in the FB remark part), the vote was damaged all the way down to 241 members voting “No Confidence & Resign” as 64 abstained and 0 picked “Confidence & Continue.”
The assertion furthered detailed Nanos unveiled historical past full of discplinary actions. Per the union, Nanos was working at El Paso Police Department from 1976 to 1982 the place he was suspended eight different occasions, main him in a cumulative 37 days of suspension or depart without pay.

The discplinary actions taken against Nanos derived from quite a few allegations he recieved, including the use of extreme drive (comprising of a 15-day suspension for allegedly hiting a suspect in the head and inflicting an injury that required intensive care), discharge of his firearm, unlawful playing, recurring tardiness, insubordination, making threats, dereliction of obligation, improper use of a siren and extra violations.
Nanos finally resigned from the serving El Paso in 1982 instead of being fired, and “insubordination” and “consistent inefficency” had been filed as causes for his exit.
Per PCDO’s assertion, Nanos went on to use as a Correction Officer with the Pima County Sheriff Department and those documented infringements had been evidently hid.
The union acknowledged how the recorded points “raise serious concerns about leadership fitness and set a troubling precedent for the department.” They added that deputies can’t work effectively under a pacesetter with “such a history of repeated discplinary problems.”

They also famous that with Nanos’ historical past, it will have been unlikely for him to be unauthorized as a peace officer in Arizona. PCDO also talked about that Nanos has “ongoing departmental challenges” — such as mismanagement, retaliation and destroyed morale — that has created an “untenable situation” for the deputies and the community.
The assertion concluded by imploring the Pima County Board of Supervisors, elected officers, and the community to help their name for Nanos’s resignation.
At a gathering on March 24, urging the Board to take actions pertaining to Sheriff Nanos, more considerations had been introduced up by deputies and other audio system.
“It’s no secret the nation has eyes on Pima County. We have a sheriff that who has numerous lawsuits, an FBI RICO investigation, deputy on deputy rape case, a pattern placing campaign opponents on leave. He has created a hostile work environment where in many cases officers or deputies question or disagree his act actions or decisions, retaliatory actions such as duty reassignment in most egregious circumstances,” a resident had alleged at the assembly.
Nanos has been criticized for his dealing with of the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie. The 84-year-old mom of TODAY Show co-host Savannah Guthrie has been lacking since February 1. Authorities haven’t yet publicly idenitified a suspect or individual of curiosity.
Nanos, who has been main the case together with the FBI, not too long ago defended himself and his team in a new interview with News 4 Tuscon.
“Look, I have no regrets about my team and their efforts,” the sheriff said to the outlet. “I don’t regret we let the crime scene go too soon or any of that.”
A congressional candidate, Daniel Butierez, has also called for Nanos elimination in a recall campaign that was lauched last week.
