Shinedown receives award after pulling out of Kid Rock

Rock band Shinedown acquired some love at the iHeartworkRadio Music Awards.

While on the crimson carpet, they had been informed about their huge win for Rock Artist of the Year for his or her musical achievements, being handed the trophy for the second 12 months in a row. “I didn’t think people got these awards two years in a row,” said guitarist Zach Myers. “That’s crazy.”

The award was the first of the night to be handed out on the crimson carpet. “This makes it even more special,” said Zach. He added, “We were nominated for three things, so to win even one, to show up and win is amazing, thank you guys very much.” It comes after the band dropped out of Kid Rock’s music competition.

Singer Brent Smith added, “Thank you to all the fans too … Thank you to everyone who listens and allows us to be ourselves. So, thank you to them.”

He moreover thanked the team at iHeartworkRadio. “If I’m being honest,” the musician said. “Like, radio has changed our life. It’s given us a career and everybody at iHeartRadio from the top to the bottom, there’s just been so many poeple that have been there for us from day one and honestly I can’t say enough about iHeart. They’re incredible.”

Shinedown’s win got here just after they landed in controversy for agreeing to play alongside Kid Rock at his Rock The Country music competition, which was dubbed a ‘MAGA’ event by critics.

The band shortly withdrew their title from the lineup. The public’s response to the lineup precipitated Shinedown concern. Defending their determination to withdraw, Brent told Rolling Stone, “We saw infighting that we had never seen before, and for us, it was our job to diffuse it. I just want to remind everybody, it says the ‘United States of America’ — united. And a lot of people right now don’t feel united.”

The pair from Shinedown also spoke with the red carpet hosts, explaining that they look forward to the event since it’s not “stuffy,” and reflected on their careers as artists.

“We have the biggest job ever,” said Zach. “There’s no approach to not go on stage and never have a very good time.” He further explained that he uses the crowd’s energy to keep pushing forward when there are off-days. “The crowd pulls you out of that, that’s like actually the biggest reward ever.”
