During Geno Smith’s first stint with the Jets, Matt Simms served as one among his backup quarterbacks. Twelve years later, Simms helped coach up Smith this offseason.
Simms now runs “Simms Complete” in North Jersey, specializing in teaching quarterbacks from the youth level by means of the professionals. A few months in the past, Smith called up Simms and requested whether or not he would work with him when he returned to New Jersey before training camp.
The two did just that the week before the Jets went to camp. They spent three days on a discipline in Franklin Lakes, N.J., together with a number of of Smith’s teammates, engaged on some of the finer factors of playing quarterback.
“He actually reached out to me a few months ago just saying that, ‘Hey, when I come back into town, I would love to get some work with you,’” Simms said. “’I see the stuff that you’re doing and your teaching, your drills, and just wish to get some classes and study what you’re doing.’
